What is BISFA?

The Bureau International pour la Standardisation des Fibres Artificielles (BISFA) is an international association of man-made fibre producers. BISFA was founded in 1928 .

The head office of the association is Avenue E. Van Nieuwenhuyse, 6, B-1160 Brussels, Belgium.

BISFA establishes the terminology of man-made fibres to improve continually company, customer and consumer communication. BISFA provides technical rules for man-made fibres and yarns and terms of delivery which have to be met. The rules are mandatory for all members of the association. Thus,  BISFA establishes internationally agreed procedures and test methods for different categories of man-made fibres. BISFA has also drawn up general rules of procedure for settling of disputes between buyers and sellers of man-made fibres.

BISFA provides an international presence for the man-made fibre industry and promotes the adoption of its methods and terminology through standardisation organisations including the  Comité Européen de Normalisation (CEN), the International Standards Organisation (ISO) and the European Commission which is responsible for textile labelling and the relationship with the customs authorities of member states.
